We have all heard stories from a family member or a friend on how CBD has changed their life for the better. CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of over 60 active compounds in the cannabis sativa plant species. The hemp plant is high in CBD and low in THC (the psychoactive component). Given that CBD can influence brain receptors, including opioid receptors that regulate pain and glycine receptors involved in the regulation of the “feel-good” hormone serotonin it is little wonder many people are turning to it as an alternate remedy.
Many studies have shown that CBD is an effective treatment against many forms of illness. The reason that the studies for CBD are relatively young is that until a few years ago CBD was a scheduled drug like cannabis. In 2018, the farm bill reclassified CBD as a legal substance. CBD must be lab tested and be below 0.3% THC, thus ensuring CBD will not get the consumer ‘high’.

Absorption Rate is the rate at which an individual can absorb CBD through their Endocannabinoid System. As living beings, we all have EC1 and EC2 receptors within our bodies. We are already ideally equipped to receive CBD in order to keep our systems functioning efficiently and to maintain optimal health.
Distribution Rate is the rate at which the CBD can be distributed through the body. This will vary based upon the way the CBD is administered. Oral tinctures are often favored as they are taken sublingually and very quickly absorbed into the body via the receptors below the tongue. Edibles can take longer and can be less readily absorbed as they must pass through the digestive tract. Research has shown that smoking CBD or THC has a far higher uptake than consuming it in the form of an edible. Smoking appears to have somewhere between a 12% to 30% uptake versus edibles which are around 8%. (1) CBD comes in both Broad Spectrum (THC free) and Full Spectrum (Less than 0.3% THC) vape options.
Metabolic Rate is the rate at which the body metabolizes the CBD. Weight will play a key factor in the amount of CBD absorbed by the body. The metabolic rate at which each individual can metabolize the CBD will vary based upon the individuals BMI (Body Mass Index) and their age.
Lastly, the ailment the individual is wanting to treat will play an important role in the milligrams an individual should consume in a given day. If the pain or anxiety is extreme the dosage should be increased accordingly. Many people turn to CBD for many different reasons. Studies show you would have to consume over 20,000mg for CBD to have an adverse effect. We do advise that once you find your ideal dosage, stick with it. Skipping your dosage for a day and then attempting to double-up the following day is not advisable. As per any supplement, consistency is key.
