Parkinson’s Disease affects the basal ganglia in the brain. When these nerve cells and neurons are damaged, the body cannot produce dopamine. Dopamine is an essential neurotransmitter that relays messages throughout the brain. It is essential for motor co-ordination and mobility. Parkinson’s Disease can eventually lead to paralysis if left untreated.

Fortunately, scientists have worked on an array of pharmaceuticals which can slow the onset of Parkinson’s Disease but there is no cure.

As symptoms progress, patients may suffer from slurred speech, uncontrollable tremors and difficulty walking.

Parkinson’s Disease can have an array of symptoms which have been proven to be treatable with CBD. These are:

  • Insomnia
  • Tremors
  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

In clinical trials, CBD has been shown to be effective at reducing the instance and severity of seizures. It works in a similar way to slow tremors.

CBD has been proven in multiple clinical trials to effectively combat insomnia. While many of the clinical trials have focused on CBD for relieving pain, inflammation, PTSD and Multiple Sclerosis, the secondary positive effect was that participants slept better.

CBD and cannabis have long been researched for their ability to fight pain. Cannabis is not recommended for Parkinson’s patients. Doctors are starting to recommend CBD for an array of ailments.

A study in Brazil, treating patients with Parkinson’s with 75mg – 300mg of CBD per day showed a distinct lessoning of symptoms. They slept better and had less anxiety although there was not a strong correlation showing improved motor skills.

This may be due to the fact that the CBD was not used for a long enough duration and also that the size of the study was limited.

CBD is beneficial for many of the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s Disease. One area of concern would be if the patient is suffering from low blood pressure or is taking any medication for blood pressure issues. CBD can lower blood pressure. Always consult a doctor before taking CBD if you are currently taking pharmaceutical medication.

CBD is a super versatile product that comes in an array of different forms and dosages. Treating Parkinson’s symptoms may require a higher dosage than other ailments. CBD has been shown to be well tolerated in dosages up to 1500mg per day in clinical trials.

Start with a dosage of 50mg per day for the first few days and gradually adjust the dosage upwards from there, in 20-30mg increments.
