CBG has recently become the new buzz word in the Cannabinoid arena. We have many patients asking ‘What exactly is CBG and what are the benefits of CBG?’.
So we thought we better get to creating a range of CBG products and sharing some information on this amazing Cannabinoid so that you can make an informed decision when it comes to choosing a beneficial health regime.
What exactly is CBG?
CBG stands for Cannabigerol, and it is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the hemp and marijuana plant species. CBG typically appears in quite low concentrations in the plant; it appears at around 2% in the hemp species and at around 1% in marijuana.
CBG is a very interesting cannabinoid as it is the precursor to all other cannabinoids. All of the cannabinoids in the plant start out as CBG and as flowering commences an enzyme within the plant is released that triggers the conversion to other cannabinoids like CBD, CBD, CBN and CBC. It is the cannabinoid that is the mother or the matriarch of the plant that triggers the production of other cannabinoids.
Cannabis growers have been experimenting with cross-breeding over the past 5 years to increase the percentage of CBG present in the plant. CBG was traditionally an extremely expensive cannabinoid because it was found in such small amounts, and to harvest the isolate or distillate took a really large quantity of hemp flower.
Lab-tested hemp is a critical component of making quality CBD & CBG products
We are fortunate to have a friend who is an Organic Farmer in Oregon. He switched over his hemp grow operation from CBD to CBG in 2018. CBG produces a really beautiful fragrant flower which is very low in THC. Our Oregon organically grown CBG has over 16% total cannabinoids of which more than 15% is CBG. Our products are all lab-tested to ensure quality results and accurate dosing.
We sell CBG Tinctures, CBG Skincare, and CBG Flower online and at our store in Southern California. We have seen a boost in patients coming in and asking for CBG. Initially, people were curious and now as our customers have experienced the benefits for themselves it has become a really desirable product.
This was the reason we decided to branch off into creating a skincare line. CBG has been proven to benefit the skin especially in skin that is dry or aging.
We set about to create a soothing toner with CBG, Lebanese Rose Distillate, and alpha-hydroxy to reduce the appearance of fine lines. We paired this with an amazing Rosehip and Hibiscus Facial Serum which has the addition of 500mg CBG. And lastly, we created a Rosehip and Hibiscus facial cream with 1,000mg of CBG. This amazing moisturizer is full of incredible plant-based essential oils and organic aloe to leave the skin refreshed and glowing.

What are the medical benefits of CBG?
Of the limited studies that have been conducted we do know that one of the benefits of CBG is that it can help stimulate the growth of new brain cells – even in elderly patients.
It may also stimulate bone growth, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation. But that’s not all. It has been shown to have anti-tumor and antibacterial properties, help with glaucoma, mediate bladder dysfunction, manage skin conditions. Like CBD, CBG is also showing benefits for stress, anxiety, and depression.
So how can CBG treat anxiety and depression? Studies have shown that CBG that this amazing cannabinoid can inhibit GABA uptake which has been shown to alleviate anxiety and muscle tension. This, in turn, leads to a peace and calm both physically and mentally.
We expect that there will be a plethora of new studies being conducted over the next 12 months to find more proven benefits of this cannabinoid. So far despite the fact that the research has been quite limited the studies have already proven that its uses may soon outweigh other cannabinoids.
CBG is getting a reputation as a powerful compound that can help with a variety of conditions.

We blend our full spectrum CBD along with our CBG Isolate to give you an amazing and medicinally beneficial tincture.
What the future holds for CBG
We at OC Wellness Solutions were understandably excited to try this new cannabinoid and to gauge for ourselves its effects. Here’s what I personally found. It undoubtedly increased my sharpness and mental focus. It also gave me a pleasant feeling of being completely at ease but alert at the same time.
I have no doubt that the next 18 months will reveal that CBG is a go-to cannabinoid and whilst I do not think it will bypass CBD as a plant medicine I strongly believe that scientists will find applications where CBG excels. Also, I am still a firm believer in the entourage effect created by consuming the plant matter in a complete form. I always opt for a Full Spectrum product when I can.
However, I do understand that many people need to drug test for their employment and are thereby in a situation where an Isolate or Broad Spectrum product is necessary. There is no evidence to suggest that either of these choices are less beneficial. I believe that it comes down to personal choice.
How I have incorporated CBD & CBG into my wellness routine
It has taken me several years of using CBD as a medicinal supplement to have arrived at my ideal dose which is 100mg per day. I am now incorporating an additional 15mg of CBG into my morning ritual (it is on my desk in front of me as I write this blog) as I have found it is a wonderful source of calming, mental focus for my workday. It can take a few months for your body to adjust so be patient with yourself and with cannabinoids. You too will find the ideal dosage. If you are new to CBD please take advantage of our CBD calculator which will help you find a good base dosage.
We wish you every success in utilizing this amazing plant medicine and we encourage you to share your stories of success with us. We love to hear stories from our customers on how CBD has changed their lives for the better.
